Fairpointe and partner staff gather beside a Walk to School Day sign at Trinity Community Commons.

Project story

Students, school staff, community leaders, and transportation officials participated throughout program development. Fairpointe also researched successful Safe Routes to School programs nationwide and adapted proven strategies to Nashville's context and Vision Zero commitments.

The resulting toolkit is organized around Engineering, Evaluation, Encouragement, Education, and Enforcement, with equity integrated throughout. It provides guidance for infrastructure improvements, engagement, education, and consistent implementation across schools and neighborhoods.

Outcome

A community-informed Safe Routes to School program and practical Five Es toolkit centered on student safety and equity.
